Chickpea growers in Saskatchewan have been given emergency permission to use the Quadris foliar fungicide to stop the spread of Ascochyta blight, a fungal disease affecting chickpeas, lentils and field peas.

High moisture in chickpea-growing areas has contributed to the spread of Ascochyta blight, and spores on residue from last year are infecting this year’s crop.

The disease spreads rapidly, and producers believe fungicides such as Quadris will prevent yield and quality losses that could amount to C$75m.
