Saputo is closing its cookie factory in Laval, Quebec and transferring production to its Sainte-Marie-de-Beauce, Quebec, facility.
The company said that 97 jobs would be affected. The Laval plant will cease its operations on 29 June, 2007.
The company said that charges associated with the closure will total around C$800,000 (US$693,462). However, the group anticipates savings of approximately C$1.1m in fiscal 2008 and annual savings of C$1.6m thereafter.
“This decision is part of the company’s continual analysis of its overall activities and the implementation of measures aimed at improving its operational efficiency,” Saputo said in a statement.
