Canadian grocery retailer Sobeys has announced that it has completed its purchase of the assets of Commisso’s Food Markets and Commisso’s Grocery Distributors.

Nova Scotia-based Sobeys announced at the beginning of December that it had agreed to purchase the Commisso’s assets, which include 15 grocery stores, six cash and carry outlets and a wholesale business and distribution centre.

Bill McEwan, president and chief executive officer of Sobeys, said the acquisition would improve the company’s “overall market presence, competitiveness and productivity” in one of its key operating regions.
