Canadian frozen dessert maker CoolBrands International has announced that it has made a deal with Atkins Nutritionals to make, sell and distribute Atkins Endulge ice cream products in Canada and the US.

Markham, Ontario-based CoolBrands said the deal would help boost its presence in the diet food sector because Atkins Endulge does not contain added sugar and controls carbohydrates. The product is aimed at consumers who are following the low-carbohydrate Atkins diet plan.

“The addition of Atkins Endulge to our brand portfolio positions CoolBrands as the pre-eminent better-for-you ice-cream company,” David Stein, president and co-chief executive for CoolBrands, was quoted by Reuters as saying.

CoolBrands said it would offer Atkins Endulge in different flavours in pint-size containers, as well as ice cream bars and other frozen snacks. The products will be available in supermarkets and natural food stores from next month, CoolBrands said.
