Chilean candy manufacturer Dos en Uno, owned by Argentinian food producer Arcor, is to build a new confectionery plant.
Dos en Uno plans to spend US$40m on the new factory, located close to Santiago, the Chilean capital.
“We will eventually replace our facility in Santiago de Chile’s city centre with this new plant at the Cerrillos commune, located next to our distribution centre,” said a source from Arcor, which has four plants in Chile. “The goal is to become more efficient regarding logistic and production processes, increasing profit margins in Chile.”
The new facility will have 19,000 m² to manufacture confectionery for domestic and export markets. Construction will be finished by December 2014.
The plant is part of Arcor’s $300m investment project over 2010 and 2011. The company has also built a corn syrup facility in Argentina and doubled capacity at a crackers and snacks factory in the country.
