Chilean supermarket chain D&S has said it has acquired the Chilean operations of French retail giant Carrefour for €100m (US$126.6m).
Although the price paid for the seven Carrefour outlets was believed by some analysts to be fairly high, the deal means D&S has eliminated one of its key foreign competitors, Reuters reported.
France’s Carrefour said it had decided to exit its Chilean operations because of competition and a lack of options for expansion.
D&S, which already has a market share of just over 30%, said it would take over the stores on 7 January, increasing its market share to around 33%.
