Chilean supermarket chain D&S has announced a rise in net revenue to US$617.4m in the first quarter of 2005, compared with $573.7m in the first quarter last year. Net income was $16.2m compared with $0.3m a year ago.


“D&S remains in an excellent position for gathering profits from investments made in 2004 during the coming quarters, hence delivering figures in accordance with the company’s potential,” said chief financial officer, Miguel Núñez. “Indeed, the policies adopted, as well as the strong investment in new stores, further implementation of the commercial strategy, and the development of new business divisions, start showing encouraging results.”


“The company’s strategy is focused on food retail, offering a highly compelling proposal in a market still presenting a great potential for growth, such as the Chilean market,” he said” 


Currently, the Company operates 78 stores including hypermarkets, compact hypermarkets and supermarkets, 57 Farmalider stores, 6 shopping centres, 51 cafeterias (“Lider Café” and “Café Buffet”) and three “Revive” restaurants.
