The European Union and Chile have launched formal consultations with Argentina at the World Trade Organisation over Buenos Aires’ imposition of safeguard duties on the import of canned peaches. Both complainants say the tariffs are unjustified, claiming they protect a growing local industry. If the talks fail, formal disputes proceedings could follow.
