China’s Bright Dairy & Food Co. swung back into the black in 2009 after the melamine contamination scandal hit its numbers in 2008.
The company said yesterday (22 March) that its net income stood at CNY122.5m (US$17.9m) in 2009 – compared to a net loss of CNY286m in 2008. Turnover was up almost 8% to CNY7.94bn.
In 2008, Bright Dairy & Food was among the dairy companies to sell products contaminated with the industrial chemical melamine.
The scandal killed and sickened thousands of people and led to a slump in demand for dairy products in China.
