Carrefour has opened its 10th store in Shanghai and 78th in China, according to local reports.
The company intends to open 20 new stores in the country during 2006, People’s Daily reported.
In 2005, dubbed a “year of transition”, Carrefour withdrew from the Japanese market but had 14 new store openings in China.
The company has since left the South Korean marketplace too, along with Wal-Mart, due to increased domestic competitiveness in the country.
