Metro Cash-and-Carry, the wholesale arm of German retail giant Metro Group, plans to open four more stores in China this year.
The new outlets, to be based in the east of the country, will take Metro CC’s store network in China to 42, a spokesperson told just-food today (10 July).
“China is one of the most important strategic markets for us,” the spokesperson said.
Metro generated around EUR1bn (US$1.39bn) in revenues in China last year. The spokesperson said the retailer was emphasising its record on quality and food safety as it competes with local, traditional, ‘wet’ markets.
