UK-based fresh fruit producer BanaBay has opened an office in Shanghai.

Managing director Mark O’Sullivan said the decision to set up a China office came “following rapid growth in China and strong interest from other areas in Asia”. The firm is headquartered in the UK.

Banabay has secured five “significant” customers over six ports in China over the last year. It expects to be exporting 150 containers of bananas a week by the end of next year.

O’Sullivan said the dedicated Shanghai office would enable Banabay to provide customers a direct contact, “strategically based at the port”, and an operations manager who “understands the local marketplace”.

David Guo has been appointed operations manager for the Shanghai office.
