British high street food and clothing retailer Marks and Spencer (M&S) may be once again considering opening stores in China, according to executive director of retail Mark McKeon.

If it does it is expected that M&S would look to franchise in the PRC, the mode of operation it currently uses in Hong Kong.

However, sorting out the group’s core UK business remains the priority – M&S recently fought off a takeover bid from retail tycoon Philip Green and is planning to reduce it clothing ranges and revamp stores. M&S has interests in 155 outlets in 26 countries.
