US retail giant Wal-Mart has opened its first outlet in Beijing, a members-only warehouse operated under the Sam’s Club banner.

Customers will pay 150 yuan (US$18) to become a member of Sam’s Club, which is located in a suburb of western Beijing and offers around 4,000 products, reported Reuters.

Wal-Mart has already opened four Sam’s Club stores in Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Kunming and Changchun.

The company plans to open three of its chain supermarkets in Beijing, selling a range of products including groceries and clothing.
