Wal-Mart Stores has named the new CFO and hypermarkets COO for its Chinese operations, which recently saw two senior executives depart.
Mario-José Medina, CFO of the US retailer’s unit in Chile, will take the top finance job at the company’s Chinese arm. He joined Wal-Mart in 2007 as CFO of its Puerto Rico subsidiary.
Del Sloneker, who has spent 20 years at the world’s largest retailer between 1986 and 2006, returns to the company to become COO of hypermarkets at Wal-Mart Stores China.
Last week, Wal-Mart revealed that former CFO Roland Lawrence and COO Rob Cissell had left the company for “personal reasons to explore other opportunities”.
Wal-Mart China president and CEO Ed Chan said: “Wal-Mart attaches great importance to China where the retail industry is experiencing rapid growth. Our headquarters has provided excellent talent for our China management team. Mario-José Medina and Del Sloneker are great additions to an already strong Wal-Mart China team. Both executives bring with them years of experience and a solid understanding of the retail market in China.”
