Wal-Mart wants its global supply chain to adopt environmentally sound practices, a message that it will bring to an upcoming Wal-Mart conference to be held in China.

Until now, Wal-Mart had focused its efforts to ‘go green’ on US suppliers. However, the company told just-food, it wants its international suppliers to adopt more environmentally friendly practices too.

“We are very eager to help and encourage our suppliers to reduce their impact on the environment. This is something that we are looking at globally,” a spokesperson for Wal-Mart told just-food.

Wal-Mart will meet with its suppliers at a conference to be held in October.

The world’s largest retailer accounts for about 30% of all foreign buying in China.
