Chinese meat firm Zhongpin is set to start production at its new processing site in the province of Henan.
Last April, Zhongpin begun plans to build the site in Luoyang City in the west of the province.
Zhongpin has invested around US$14.5m in the facility, which has already started production and has the capacity to produce 70,000 metric tons of chilled and frozen pork annually.
Around 60% of the capacity is dedicated to the production of chilled pork and 40% to the production of frozen pork.
”We are happy to add a new facility in Henan Province and increase our production capacity. The additional capacity will expand our distribution network in western Henan Province as well as Shanxi and Shaanxi Provinces,” said Xianfu Zhu, CEO of Zhongpin. “Henan and nearby provinces account for one third of China’s population and we plan to focus our efforts on further developing this huge market for our products.”
