Coca-Cola silent on ‘plan to launch frozen desserts in India’

Coca-Cola today (7 June) declined to comment on a report the soft drinks multinational is mulling plans to enter the food category in India with the launch of a frozen desserts range.

India business journal The Economic Times reported the group plans to debut frozen desserts as part of a strategy to “expand its portfolio beyond carbonated drinks”.

According to the journal, “two officials aware of the launch” said the desserts “will be available in the next three months, and initially sell in institutional formats such as movie theatres, and not as retail packs”.

However, a spokesperson for Coca-Cola in India told just-food today the group has “a stated policy of not commenting on speculation”.

The spokesperson said Coca-Cola is “committed to creating a virtuous circular economy for sustainable agriculture and providing a forward linkage to Indian farmers”. Initiatives include “adding juice to our sparkling portfolio, exporting Indian fruits to our global systems and launching a range of new products”.
