Carrefour has announced that it plans to invest US$100m in Colombia in 2006.

The investment programme will target the construction of at least five hypermarket outlets and the modernisation of the French group’s supply system in the country.

Carrefour posted a turnover of $523m in the first nine months of the year from its activities in Colombia, a rise of just over 26% on the same period in 2004.

Colombia has become Carrefour’s third biggest market in South America in terms of turnover behind Brazil ($2.94bn) and Argentina ($1.08bn)

Carrefour’s subsidiary company in Colombia is headed by Noel Prioux.
