Officials from France's competition regulator have carried out dawn raids at companies "suspected of having implemented anti-competitive practices in the sector of processed fruits packaged in pots and pouches".

In a brief statement, the Autorité de la Concurrence added: "Such interventions do not, of course, prejudge the guilt of the companies involved in the alleged practices, which only a full investigation into the merits of the case could establish, if appropriate.

"If the Autorité decides that there are no grounds to further investigate or closes the case to the benefit of the raided companies, it will inform the public thereof through a press release."

Contacted by just-food, a spokesman for the regulator said he was unable to comment on the identity of the compote firms raided and their number nor how the Autorité had been alerted to the alleged practices.

"We never comment on investigations which are ongoing and we are at the very start of this one which could last several months," he said.
