ConAgra Foods has announced the appointment of a new vice president and chief financial officer.

The Chicago-based food manufacturing company whose brands include Slim Jim, Healthy Choice and Marie Caooender’s has appointed David Marberger to the role, as effective from the end of August.

Marberger will report to Sean Connolly, president and chief executive officer of ConAgra Foods, and will succeed John Gehring, who previously announced his plans to retire from the company. Gehring will remain with the company until the end of September to help Marberger ease into his new role.

Marberger is currently chief financial officer at healthcare products company Prestige Brands, prior to which he held the same role at Godiva Chocolatier for seven years.  At Godiva, Marberger was instrumental in leading efforts to establish the company as a standalone business under new ownership and delivering significant improvements in its overall performance, ConAgra said.

ConAgra is itself preparing to divide the business into two units – a branded business, Conagra Brands, and a frozen potato products supplier, Lamb Weston.

Marberger has also worked at Tasty Baking Company, and spent 10 years with the Campbell Soup Company.  He began his career at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
