ConAgra Foods has announced a US$50m expansion at its Waterloo plant in Iowa.
The plant makes snacks marketed under the Snack Pack and Swiss Miss brands. The new project will see David snack seed production added to the site.
The proposed expansion project will include the construction of processing, packaging and warehouse areas to accommodate the new product. This expansion is expected to increase the plant production by 30%, adding around 99,000 square feet to the existing facility. Total employment is also expected to increase by about 55 positions. A spokesperson told just-food the site presently employs 150 people.
"Waterloo is a great fit for ConAgra Foods and our new snack seeds facility. Waterloo has an excellent workforce and the location will allow us to meet our current and future business needs," said Mike Tracy, SVP of supply chain for ConAgra.
Pending approval of incentives, ground-breaking for this project is expected to take place in the middle of June. The new operation could begin production by late 2016.
