Cow & Gate has introduced vegetables to its range of baby food in the UK.
Launching in January, Friends savoury vegetable pouches, are “designed to make vegetables an essential part of the weaning journey”, the Danone-owned firm said in a statement.
The company added it hoped to “alter findings” that only 7% of babies receive vegetables as their first weaning taste.
The Starter Pack which includes four single vegetable varieties – cauliflower, pea, carrot and broccoli, is made with no added salt, sugar or preservatives.
“We know that by encouraging vegetable intake during the weaning period, parents can establish healthy habits that last a lifetime. By the use of fun, vegetable characters, we hope that parents and babies learn to love veggies for life” said Ruby Huang, brand manager at Cow & Gate Foods.
