Thai food giant Charoen Pokphand Foods is building a production plant in Thailand to produce “healthy soup” aimed at “elderly people and patients”.

The facility, which will be located in Wangnoi Amphor in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, 50km north of Bangkok. It will be the group’s first production site manufacturing soup aimed at this demographic, a spokesperson for the company told just-food.

“[We are producing] healthy soup foods responding [to the needs of the] grey society and the market opportunity that people want food for elderly parents that is easy to eat, easy to digest and convenient to prepare,” the spokesperson explained.

The facility will initially focus on chicken soup.

CP Foods’ new soup business will supply the Thai market with the possibility of expanding to export markets at a later date. “Firstly, this healthy soup is to be sold in Thailand and plans to be exported later,” the spokesperson said. In Thailand, soups will be distributed in “modern trade, convenient stores and retailing shop”.

The facility is currently under construction and is expected to be operational in mid-2016.
