Dutch retail chain Ahold has confirmed it plans to open “dozens” of new stores in the Czech Republic.
A spokesperson for Ahold’s Czech business told just-food that the retailer is looking to open “several dozens” of outlets between now and 2017.
Earlier this week, Jan van Dam, president and CEO of Ahold’s operations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia reportedly said the company would open 50 more Czech stores by 2017. At the end of 2010, Ahold had 279 stores in the country under the Albert banner.
The spokesperson told just-food that the retailer would look to open more supermarkets, which would have an average floor space of 800 sq metres.
She refused to be drawn, however, on where the new outlets would be located. “We are presently analysing the market and looking for the ideal locations,” she said.
