Dangerous substances within PVC-based cling-film may be contaminating foodstuffs. According to the Danish Food Ministry, the main contaminant is the softener used, a carcinogenic substance called DEHA.


Studying films on the market, food authorities found that 16% overstepped the accepted limits on how much DEHA can be transferred to the foodstuffs. Two films were pronounced unacceptable for the packaging of any type of food containing fat.
