Dairy giant Arla Foods has quashed reports linking the company to a possible move for the dairy assets of Spanish food group Ebro Puleva.
Ebro is mulling approaches from several companies, including France’s Lactalis, and reports have linked Arla and Italy’s Parmalat for the business.
Lactalis confirmed on Friday (29 January) that it was in talks with Ebro, although Parmalat told just-food it was not interested in bidding for the assets.
Arla, the maker of brands including Lurpak butter and Castello cheese, today followed Parmalat in distancing itself from Ebro.
An Arla spokesman said a move for Ebro would not fit its strategy of investing in northern Europe.
“We are not involved in any way,” the spokesman told just-food. “Our corporate strategy is planned for the next five years – our core markets are the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany and Poland. We will also be focusing on our seed markets – the US, China and Russia.”
