Deoleo, the Spain-based olive oil producer, has started bottling in Ecuador as part of a fresh push to expand in Latin America.

Ecuadorian group La Fabril will bottle and distribute Carbonell olive oil throughout the country, as well as to other Latin American markets including Chile, Colombia and Peru, three markets in which Deoleo is already present.

Deoleo's products are on sale throughout Central and South America, from Honduras to Argentina. The deal adds Ecuador to that list.

"The two Carbonell lines to be found in the supermarkets and stores of Ecuador are refined and extra virgin, which will feature several presentations and sizes, adapting to the reality of different socioeconomic strata," Juan Antonio Franco, director of marketing for La Fabril, said.

Pointing to the "health benefits" of olive oil, La Fabril said it wanted to help increase the number of urban households that consumes the product from 21% of homes to 58% in three years.
