Dole Packaged Foods has opened its third US facility for frozen fruits to serve retail, foodservice and private-label clients.

The subsidiary of Dole Food Co. said the 60,000-square-foot plant in McDonough, Georgia, has four production lines with an annual capacity of 60 million pounds. The facility, which opened on 28 January for the initial production phase, is expected to be fully operational by September and will supply customers on the US east coast.

Around 100 people will be employed at the site once it is fully up and running, Dole Packaged Foods said in a statement on Friday (12 February). The company has two other frozen fruit plants in Atwater, California, and Decatur in Michigan.

Sunil Phabiani, the vice president for Dole Packaged Foods' supply chain and operations in North America, said: "One of our company's main initiatives is to provide access to good nutrition for a billion people in the next few years. This operation will help us achieve this goal."
