Dutch fruit and vegetable growers Best of Four and Van Nature are to merge.
The cooperatives, which will function as one as of January 2020, have not disclosed whether the deal entails any financial considerations.
Best of Four and Van Nature said that through this merger they expect to gain more advantages for their members..
The new organisation will have 265 members and 1,029 ha of greenhouse vegetables. It will become the largest producer of greenhouse vegetables in the Netherlands and will also become a major player in the fruit and full soil vegetable arena.
Its members will, collectively, control 2,105 ha of under soil vegetables and 1.682 ha of fruit.
The companies’ boards also believe the deal will improve their hand when dealing with retailers and trade buyers and allow them to better market their members’ products.
