Mondelez International has said its operations in Egypt are fully operational again following a temporary suspension due to the civil unrest in the country.
A spokesperson for Mondelez told just-food today (19 August) the company made a decision to halt operations at four of its facilities in Egypt on Thursday for one day. Operations resumed on Saturday, the spokesperson said.
Ola Loutfi, Mondelez Egypt corporate and government affairs director, said: “We stopped operations on Thursday because it was not safe for our employees to come to work. They are our number one priority. It wasn’t just Mondelez, most businesses closed too.”
Loutfi said operations had resumed and were “back to normal”, adding the company is meeting daily to “discuss the situation and decide on what action to take for the next day”.
“We believe it is our responsibility to continue working and to help build the economy of the country. Our morale is very much lifted because we believe we can make a change.”
Loutfi said it was “too early to say” if, and how much, business may have been affected by the suspension of operations.
