Swiss dairy group Emmi has sold its US production facility for aseptic dairy products to KanPak as it focuses in on its specialty cheese business in the market.

The site was built after Emmi’s 2010 acquisition of CASP, a contract and speciality packaging company located in Penn Yan, New York. Emmi said that KanPak, also a contract manufacturing specialist, is better positioned to grow the business.

Matthias Kunz, SVP Americas at Emmi, commented: “As a specialist for manufacturing of aseptic products, KanPak is in a good position to rapidly develop the site in Penn Yan.”

Emmi Penn Yan generates revenues of US$30m.

The deal is expected to close on 18 December. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

The disposal will leave Emmi to focus on its branded consumer-facing dairy business. “Emmi concentrates in the production of specialty cheeses. Its core business does not include contract manufacturing for third parties,” the company noted.
