The European Commission has announced that food manufacturers must register the use of vitamin A under the EU’s REACH (registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemical substances) system.

The vitamin was previously exempt from the REACH scheme.

EU-based manufacturers or importers of vitamin A will have to pre-register their use of the ingredient by 1 December, enabling them to continue manufacturing or importing the vitamin.

Meanwhile, the Commission has announced that non-food uses of palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, corn oil, rape seed oil will be removed from REACH; food uses were already exempt.
