The European Commission has awarded £490,000 (US$758,700) for the promotion of UK dairy products.
This grant will be match-funded by the Milk Development Council, giving a total spend of £980,000 within the next year.
In December 2000 the Commission agreed to allocate funds for the promotion of agricultural foods produced within the EU – highlighting quality, hygiene, safety, nutrition or labelling.
Each programme was subsequently evaluated by the Commission and the successful recipients were announced last week.
The UK promotional campaign will be managed by The Dairy Council and will communicate the nutritional benefits of dairy products.

By GlobalDataKevin Bellamy, Chief Executive of the Milk Development Council commented:
“We are delighted to match-fund this money from Europe. Hopefully this will be a significant boost to ‘The White Stuff’ campaign and give dairy products a much higher profile as a natural source of health and well-being.”
