The European Commission has released details of legislative proposals it will abandon under a drive by the current regime to simplify European Union (EU) laws and lessen their impact on industry.

Regarding food, Brussels is to drop a proposed directive outlining the conditions for paying export credits for agricultural products; a regulation on crediting forfeited Common Agricultural Policy securities, deposits and guarantees; planned rice production subsidies; a directive establishing nominal weights for coffee and chicory extracts; a regulation on animal product health controls; now obsolete food trade deals with eight new member states; and five fishery proposals, affecting Norway lobster, Baltic herring, cod and hake.
