The European Parliament has added pre-packed bread, spreadable fats and tea to the list of food and drink products that will retain set pre-packed sizes within the European Union (EU) under a proposed directive from the European Commission. Original plans had called for these rules to remain for only wines, soluble coffee, white sugar and most products sold in aerosols.

MEPs also backed the agriculture committee’s proposals for retaining set pack sizes for drinking milk, butter, ground or unground roasted coffee, dried pasta, rice and brown sugar. The proposal will now be debated by the EU Council of Ministers, which also has veto rights over its terms.
