The EU has carried out raids at a number of unnamed exotic fruit producers and importers as part of a probe into alleged price-fixing.

The raids took place between Wednesday and Friday last week, although the European Commission declined to name identities or number of the companies involved.

Nevertheless, the Commission said it believes the companies may have broken EU anti-competition rules.

In July, four produce firms – Fresh Del Monte, Dole Food Co, Chiquita Brands International and Ireland’s Fyffes – received “statements of objections” from the European Commission concerning the investigation of banana pricing in the EU.

The Commission did not comment on whether the raids were linked to that investigation. None of the companies could be reached for immediate comment on the raids.
