The European Union has approved seafood products from Guyana for import to the EU.

According to Guyana’s government news agency, the certification came after production facilities met EU health and safety standards.

Guyana currently exports around six million pounds of seafood a year, most of which is shrimp. Its biggest export market is the US.

Guyana seafood companies said they expect to be exporting up to one million pounds of seafood to Europe annually within a year, reported the Associated Press.
