The European Commission has lost patience with the Italian government over its failure to introduce allergy labelling for food products, as mandated by EU law.
The Commission has announced that it will launch a case at the European Court of Justice, which has the authority to order Italy to reform its labelling rules.
Rome had not even responded to letters of complaint from the Commission before the EU executive decided to push ahead with legal recourse.
