The UK’s stance comes despite recent demonstrations in London by UK pork producers, protesting the financial plight of the industry.
At a meeting of EU agriculture ministers, UK officials took the lead in opposing Polish proposals “calling for pigmeat export refunds”, according to minutes of the meeting.
UK opposition came amid support for the proposal from ten member states, including France, Ireland and Austria.
“The British delegation expressed doubts on the efficiency of export refunds and favoured other initiatives instead,” said the minutes recorded.
