Dutch dairy company Campina has said that as part of its growth strategy it has opened a completely refurbished production facility in Aalter, Belgium.
Campina said that it now has access to a hyper-modern production location which will produce long-life dairy products for Europe and other parts of the world. With an investment of approximately €80m (US$95.4m), Campina refurbished and expanded production capacity, and constructed a completely new automatic warehouse.
The facility in Aalter now has an annual capacity of 275 million units (UHT bottles) and employs around 500 people.
The Aalter production facility forms part of Campina’s newly-formed Consumer Products Europe group (CPE). Taking effect from 3 October, this group represents Campina Netherlands, Campina Germany and Campina International. Pooling these basic dairy products, desserts and dairy drinks operations is Campina’s response to the increasing internationalisation of its European trading partners and the intensified European competition. The new structure also offers optimal opportunities for scale expansion and speeding up international product innovations, Campina said.
From October, Campina’s commercial activities will be divided into three groups: Consumer Products Europe, Cheese & Butter and Industrial Products.
