A European Commission report has predicted pig production will decrease by 0.6% across the European Union this year, compared with 2004.
Changes vary widely amongst member states, however, from down 9.4% in Hungary and 8.2% in Slovakia to up 12.8% in Estonia and 6.1% in the Netherlands. There were 151.7m EU pigs in December 2004.
