Tate & Lyle looks set to sell part of its European starch and sweetener business in a deal worth up to GBP220m (US$437m).
The company said it is in “advanced” talks with Syral, a subsidiary of French group Tereos. Should a deal be reached, Tate & Lyle will offload businesses in the UK, Belgium, France, Spain and Italy.
In any case, Tate & Lyle said it has started consulting with workers on the effects of the possible to jobs.
France’s Tereos is an agro-industrial cooperative, which operates in five countries, which also include Czech Republic and Brazil.
