One person has been killed and two injured following the explosion of a machine at a Senagral dairy plant in Jouy, in France's Burgundy region.

Senagral, which specialises in the production of private-label desserts. is now 100%-owned by French co-operative Agrial having been part of dairy group Senoble.

"During routine preventive maintenance work on a packaging machine, an explosion occurred, seemingly of a disinfectant cylinder on the machine, which led to the death of a maintenance worker," Senagral said in a statement.

Two other workers were hurt in the blast, with one of them taken to hospital but the injuries are not life-threatening, the statement added.

An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

No-one was immediately available to comment at Senagral on the impact the accident has had on production at the plant.
