German hard discounter Lidl plans to sell milk and yoghurt supplied by Finnish dairy cooperative Valio.

Lidl will source Valio milk and yoghurt to retail in its supermarkets in Finland. It will also source the eggs it will sell in Finland from a supplier based in southern Finland, while western Finland-based egg packer Narpes Aggpackeri failed to strike a deal with the German group.

According to a report in Vasabladet, Lidl has not yet decided which company will provide vegetables to its Finnish supermarkets.

Lidl opened its first ten Finnish supermarkets late last month in Forssa, Iisalmi, Jyvaskyla, Kaarina, Kemi, Kempele, Kouvola, Lappeenranta, Pirkkala and Aanekoski. The company plans to open new stores in many towns throughout Finland by the end of 2002. Lidl operates in 15 European countries and has 5,000 low-price supermarkets.)
