Finnish retail co-operative S Group has reported an 8% increase in its grocery sales for 2011.
The company said its grocery retail sales were up 8.1% at EUR6.24bn (US$5.2bn) year-on-year. It did not provide profit numbers for the year.
S Group described the rise as “fairly good” and said grocery sales in Finland increased 5.9% in 2011.
The co-op operates supermarkets, service stations, department stores and speciality outlets mostly in Finland but also in the Baltic States and in the Russian city of St Petersburg. Its business also includes hotels and coffee shops.
S Group, which opened three Prisma stores in St Petersburg last year, said its grocery sales outside Finland increased 40.6% to EUR264.4m in 2011.
