The French authorities have updated their list of withdrawn products following the fipronil food scare.

It has listed products which contain fipronil – an insecticide linked with the contamination of eggs in recent weeks – at a concentration above the regulatory limit of 0.005mg per kg of product.

The French Ministry of Agriculture said the products withdrawn posed no health risk.

The updated withdrawn products list includes egg-based waffle products manufactured in the Netherlands and sold by French retailers such as Carrefour and Monoprix with sell-by dates stretching forward to 13 October. Two SKUs marketed under Lotus Bakeries’ Lotus brand have also been withdrawn.

Earlier this month, supermarkets in the UK products recalled processed food products such as sandwich fillings, salads and deli fillers made with contaminated eggs. It said fresh eggs containing fipronil residues had not gone on sale in the UK.

Last week, the UK’s Food Standards Agency issued a list of 14 additional products containing eggs from the affected farms. Most of the products were distributed to food manufacturers and catering outlets. They included liquid egg yolks and egg whites.

The contamination, which is believed to have started in the Netherlands, a major egg exporter, has led to farms in the country and in Belgium having operations suspended and to retailers in a number of European markets recalling products. Dutch poultry services company ChickFriend is said to have used the insecticide to rid farms of lice. Two individuals in the Netherlands were arrested on 10 August.
