Auchan is launching Auchan City, its new “convenience hyper” city centre concept, tomorrow (6 April).

The EUR16m (US$22.7m) 4,000 square metre outlet is located in a shopping centre in Tourcoing and has been designed “to allow city dwellers to rediscover the pleasure of shopping” with a focus on fresh, locally sourced, quality food.

More than 50% of retail space will be dedicated to fresh food and fruit and vegetable stalls, totalling over 200 square metres of space, will be located at the entrance to the store.

“The Auchan City concept will be tested out over the next 12 months at least and if results prove positive, more outlets could be considered. However, nothing has been decided at this stage,” a company official told just-food today.
