French retail giant Auchan is to revamp its management team after chairman Christophe Dubrulle decided to retire from the role.

Auchan plans to replace its executive board with an executive committee following Dubrulle’s decision to step down after 45 years with the business.

The revamp legally changes Auchan from a corporation governed by an executive board and a supervisory board to a corporation governed by a board of directors.

Dubrulle will remain a member of Auchan’s board of directors and will also stay chairman of E-Drive, the retailer’s online business.

Each of Auchan’s four core businesses – hypermarkets, supermarkets, Banque Accord and Immochan – will be represented on the new executive committee, alongside the retailer’s human resources, finance and management control units.

Vianney Mulliez, currently chairman of Auchan’s supervisory board, will become chairman of the board of directors and chairman of the group’s new executive committee.

Philippe Baroukh, general manager of Auchan’s hypermarkets, Philippe Saudo, general manager of the retailer’s supermarkets division and Patrick Bodin, director of planning and management control, will be among those on the committee.

Jérôme Guillemard, CEO of Banque Accord, Benoît Lheureux, who holds the dual roles of CEO of Immochan and director of human resources and CFO Xavier de Mézerac will also be on the committee.

Mulliez said: “I am convinced that the independence and autonomy that we enjoy owing to our status of family-led and unlisted company is a genuine strategic advantage – for the continuing development of our lines of business and above all for continuing to be what we are and have always wanted to be: an enterprise of retailers-entrepreneurs.”
