Bonduelle, the France-based vegetable processor, is looking to expand its operations in Brazil and is eyeing two acquisitions in Canada as the company plans to boost its overseas business.

The company, which yesterday (26 February) posted a dip in first-half profits, will build a preserved and frozen vegetable facility in Brazil to supply other markets in South America, including Argentina.

Bonduelle said it would invest EUR15m (US$19.1m) in the project with construction due to start this spring and production to begin in January next year.

The firm is also planning to buy two firms in Canada, where it snapped up Canadian frozen and canned vegetable processor Aliments Carrière in 2007.

Bonduelle has lined up the acquisitions of local Canadian businesses Family Tradition Foods and Omstead Foods.
